Fitting weeks or months of clothes into a backpack is going to be hard, but with this packing cubes you can fix that. It’s a simple concept – cram as many clothes as possible into zip-bag organisers, and put them in your backpack. The clothes get compressed and you end up being able to carry more in the same space. We prefer this low-tech solution to vacuum bags, as you’ll be doing a lot of packing/unpacking.
Packing cubes are containers, usually in a rectangular shape, for organising your items. They come in a range of sizes, colours and are often sold in sets like this one. These are often small enough that you can fit several of them into your backpack or suitcase. These will change the way you pack and help you travel with more stuff and less luggage. Once you start using them I'm sure you will not look back!

When you're traveling your bag it's going to be very full of clothes and other travel essentials. You want to keep them compact and organised to prevent them from getting all creased. I've made this mistake and looked like I had been wearing my clothes to bed every day.
You don't want to be traveling with extra luggage if you don't need to. You can make better use of space in a smaller backpack by packing better. This is great so that you can book flights and save money by just having hand luggage. I've managed to keep everything in the one backpack, that way I can keep it on my all times. With so many travel essentials, you don't want it to get lost or stolen. If you did though, this is where I would remind you to buy travel insurance before you go.
Having the contents of your backpack in packing cubes will help you find everything in your bag and not pack too much. This is good if you're jet-lagged or hungover from last night's pub crawl. It's not a good look having to unpack your underwear all over the floor to find that top you want to wear. More so if you haven't washed in a few days while being on the road. Some organisers are waterproof and all offer protection from dirt and dust.
You don't just have to use it for clothes, you can use packing cubes for toiletries and your electronics. Using different cubes to keep your shampoo from getting all over your travel adapter is a good idea. It's a good place to keep all your charger cables so they don't mess up your bag and you can get to them easily. I want to keep essential things I need while on the go at the top of my bag but I don't want them to get nicked. Adding an extra zipper is a good way to protect it from pickpockets.
If you have done a great job organising your cubes, you can keep using them for each time you go traveling. It can make thinking about packing and getting ready for your next trip a lot easier.
Be the backpacker that your new hostel mates would like you to be and be more organised and faff around less.
